The
Lilac
Every spring, after surviving the coldest months Canada can offer, the lilacs in the studio garden bloom — filling the air with fragrance and the yard with colour. This bed is carved in their honour. Each flower and stem is hand-carved into fire-charred Douglas fir, bringing the elegance of that brief, beautiful season into the room where you begin and end every day.
Every carving is one
of a kind.

All beds are custom made in Canada to order. The additional cost over our standard beds reflects the hours of hand-carving that go into each piece. A 50% deposit secures your commission slot; the remainder is due upon delivery. Delivery within BC can be arranged.
The hand-carved flowers
Every lilac bloom and curling stem on this bed is carved by hand — no CNC, no templates. The design flows across the headboard and down the posts, each piece slightly different from the last. It is slow, deliberate work, and it shows. No two Lilac beds are identical.
Fire-charred Douglas fir
The wood is charred using a traditional burning technique before carving begins, creating a deep, dark surface that brings the carved flowers into sharp relief. An oil-based varnish is then applied to lock in the finish and ensure no soot transfers to bedding or skin. The result is a bed that is as practical as it is striking.
Construction
- 100% solid Douglas fir throughout — no MDF, no plywood, no particleboard
- Hand-carved lilac motif on headboard and posts
- Fire-charred finish sealed with oil-based varnish
- Table top hardware for solid joints and easy assembly
- Slat system supports any standard mattress
- Built to standard or custom dimensions
- Designed to be disassembled and reassembled
Care
Wipe with a lightly damp cloth. The oil varnish finish fully seals the charred surface — no soot will transfer. The varnish can be reapplied every few years to maintain the lustre of the finish.
